Sue Mills* knew she’d have a career in real estate from a very young age. As one of six children, she quickly realized that the best way to spend time with her dad was to go with him on weekends when he was researching properties or hosting open houses. Sue vividly recalls trudging through the snow one day, directly behind her dad, saying to herself, “I’m going to follow in my Dad’s footsteps” and that she did!
After attending Wilfrid Laurier University in the Honours Bachelor of Business Administration program, Sue was hired by her Co-Op employer IBM, where she enjoyed the exposure to corporate sales and administration; however her heart was in the real estate industry, and since 1987 she has built her career and helped to build The Mills Team to what it is today – one of the most successful, respected and admired teams in Canada.
On a personal level, after being swept off her feet in an 11 day whirlwind courtship – while still in university – Sue married Jim Delsnyder. Given their spontaneity and their youth, there are many who would have doubted that over 32 years later Sue and Jim would both be enjoying successful careers (Jim is the President and CEO of ESKA Water) and the joys, trials and tribulations of raising three incredible kids. Sarah, their eldest, is currently teaching elementary school in the GTA, A.J (Alexander James) is attending Chiropractic College in Davenport Iowa, and Victoria (a member of The Mills Team!).
In her spare time, Sue enjoys spending time reading a good book at their family cottage, golfing, travelling and delighting in the gourmet dinners prepared by Jim for their family and friends.
Sarah O’Neill* was born in Bristol, England. In 1967, her family settled in Don Mills where she attended Victoria Park Secondary School and met her friend Sue Mills. After attending The University of Waterloo and York University, Sarah launched her stellar career in sales. She quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to Vice President of Sales at ADP before she turned 30. Sarah has held various Senior Canadian Sales Management positions in a number of software companies including ADP, Infinium Software and JD Edwards. Sarah also served on the Board of the Canadian Professional Sales Association for two years.
During her time in corporate life, Sue Mills helped Sarah and her husband, Shaun, buy their first home. Sarah loved the entire process and obtained her real estate license with the long-range plan of joining Sue and her family in their successful real estate business, “when the time was right”. It was a number of years before that happened, but in 2002 Sarah traded in her busy corporate life of living on planes and in hotel rooms, for the arguably even more hectic life of selling Toronto real estate. The work days are not any shorter, but Sarah has never looked back. Working directly with her clients, providing solutions for them that she truly believes in, and exceeding their expectations, all while working in a team environment provide Sarah with her ideal second career.
Sarah and her husband Shaun Adams are the proud parents of two great sons, Michael (22) and Mitchell (21). Playing tennis is just one of Sarah’s passions, along with travelling and spending time with her family and friends at their cottage in Fenelon Falls.
Katie Mills* grew up in Toronto and attended high school at Branksome Hall. She continued her studies at the University of Western Ontario where she graduated in Honours Sociology.
Like her sister Sue, when she was very young, Katie knew that she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps. She loved hearing his clients recount stories of him convincing them not to buy properties that he knew were not right for them. He would always follow up by finding them a better alternative. Witnessing his integrity instilled in her his honest long-term approach to service.
In 1992, Katie joined the family real estate business. She loves the camaraderie and support of working within a team and takes great pride in continuing the family’s tradition of excellence.
Katie and her husband Dr. David O’Connor live in Leaside balancing the delights of engaging careers and three busy young children Mason, Davis and Dawson.
Spending time at her cottage with family and friends and indulging in her lifelong passion for water skiing, are two of Katie’s favourite pastimes. She also enjoys a wide variety of other athletic pursuits and loves being involved with her children’s school and sports activities.
Lauren Rebecca* grew up in Oakville and Grimsby, Ontario. After a successful competitive dance career, she became co-director of Canada’s largest Children’s Dance Championship “Foot Loose”. Lauren toured across North America producing over 30 international competitions each year. In 2006 Lauren became a licensed real estate sales representative and quickly earned top sales awards with her (then) Niagara Region brokerage. Since relocating to Toronto and joining The Mills Team in 2008, Lauren’s continuous collaboration, strong work ethic and professionalism have made her an invaluable member of our team. Lauren’s wealth of technology knowledge, coupled with her absolute dedication to customer service, provides our clients with a first rate experience.
Being a city girl at heart, Lauren has fallen in love with the many great opportunities and activities Toronto has to offer and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Lauren enjoys dancing, pilates, and exploring the different neighbourhoods in our city.
Alex Mills** Alex Mills attended U.T.S. and Princeton University where he was the first Canadian Captain of its Varsity Hockey team. Alex has spent his working life continuing the Mills Family’s long history of service in Toronto, which spans law (Mills & Mills), insurance and real estate. Alex’s sales career began at Procter & Gamble, followed by 15 years of selling life insurance and helping his clients with their estate planning. Alex then made the move to selling real estate where he enjoys helping families, corporations, institutions and investors make important decisions and to achieve their real estate objectives. One of the things Alex now enjoys the most is being able to work with his very professional and capable partners, daughters Sue and Katie and Sarah and Lauren.
Alex and his wife Jane recently celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary with their eleven children (including 4 sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law), twelve grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
A pleasant diversion (summers and weekends) for Alex has been developing and selling cottage properties in Muskoka. Occasionally he also takes time off to play golf at York Downs in Unionville where he is an Honourary Life Member and to enjoy the boat rides to and from the childrens’ cottages on Miller Island in Lake Muskoka.
